Fred Armisen and Kristen Bell are your 2015 Independent Spirit Awards hosts
Sometimes awards shows can benefit from having more than one host. However, the reverse is often true—sometimes disastrously so. Whether due to simply trying to beat the odds, or maybe because it’s the standoffish younger brother of awards shows and it’ll do what it wants, the Film Independent Spirit Awards have selected Fred Armisen and Kristen Bell to co-host this year’s ceremony.
Now in its 30th year, the Spirit Awards have decided to return to broadcasting the show live, something that hasn’t happened since 2010. If it’s anything like past years, Armisen and Bell will tell some pretty good jokes to a largely indifferent audience, probably because the show is held in a giant drafty tent in Santa Monica where it seems really difficult to hear. Held the afternoon before the Oscars, recent installments have made the bold, independent choice to nominate mostly the exact same films as the Oscars, but this year is slightly (and refreshingly) different. Birdman leads the pack with six nominations, and Boyhood, Selma, and Nightcrawler all received five apiece.
The Film Independent Spirit Awards will air live on IFC Saturday, February 2 at 5 PM EST.
