Fred Savage teams up with Fresh Off The Boat showrunner for new sitcom
Sitcom vet Fred Savage is teaming up with Fresh Off The Boat producers Nahnatchka Khan and Kourtney Kang for a new comedy about growing up in a mixed-race family for NBC. The untitled series will be written by Kang—whose other credits include a multi-year stint on How I Met Your Mother—and based on her own experiences growing up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, dealing with issues like race and prejudice, and dreaming of growing up to be a Laker Girl like Paula Abdul.
Savage—who spent years building up experience as a TV director before returning to the on-camera world for last year’s late, lamented The Grinder—will serve as a producer and director for the series. Khan, meanwhile, is the showrunner for ABC’s well-regarded Fresh Off The Boat, and will serve as a non-writing producer on the new show. NBC ordered a pilot for the series earlier today
