Freeform greenlights a pilot for that Lonely Island sitcom
Back in April, we reported that Freeform was developing a sitcom called Alone Together from Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Tacone—better known as goofsters behind The Lonely Island. As we said at the time, the show is about a “platonic pairing” between a man and a woman who try to make it in Los Angeles. In other words, they’re “together” because they’re physically together, but they’re “alone” because they’re not, you know, “together.”
Anyway, Freeform has now given the greenlight to Alone Together and ordered a half-hour pilot for the comedy project. That comes from Deadline, which also says that Lady Dynamite’s Esther Povitsky and Not Safe With Nikki Glaser’s Benji Afalo will star as the platonic friends, and they’ll also write and executive produce the pilot. The Deadline report also expands on that previous description of the premise, adding that it’ll be about “two overlooked millennial misfits from different backgrounds,” which sounds like it’s right up Freeform/ABC Family’s alley.
