Freeform’s getting that Black-ish spin-off

There’s been talk of a Black-ish spin-off for at least a few months now, with ABC sharing a backdoor pilot for the Zoey-centered series just last week. Kenya Barris’ new series is now close to securing a deal, but, just like many a teen, it’s going to leave the (network) nest. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the spin-off starring Yara Shahidi will likely be picked up by ABC’s corporate sister, Freeform. The younger-skewing network recently ordered comic-book adaptations The New Warriors and Cloak And Dagger to series, but has been trying to beef up original content. This Zoey-focused, college-based series would join a handful of other comedies in the programming slate, including Young And Hungry and the Lonely Island’s Alone Together.
