Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, the husband-and-wife team behind “Let It Go” and other unavoidable songs from Frozen, are writing the musical number that will open up the 87th Academy Award ceremony. In the tradition of opening numbers past, it is assumed that the song will be brassy.
The Lopezes have a long history of turning in quality tunes. They wrote and produced music for the well-received 2011 Winnie The Pooh movie, and Robert co-created both Avenue Q and The Book Of Mormon. He’s also one of the few people to receive an EGOT, assuming you’re counting Daytime Emmys. Last year, the pair even accepted their Oscar for Best Original Song in rhyme.
This year, the Oscars will be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, who by now is a veteran at this stuff. The man has hosted the Tony Awards four times (video of his 2013 opening song is below), the Emmy Awards twice, and headlined a glitzy opening number for the 2010 Academy Awards ceremony even though he didn’t host the show. Expect him to effortlessly charm the room while making off-color rhymes for “Cumberbatch” when the Oscars air on February 22.
