Fruit Bats’ Eric Johnson aims for self-discovery on a new solo track

It’s hard to believe, but Fruit Bats formed almost 20 years ago in Chicago. The Eric D. Johnson-fronted folk rock band released five full-length LPs before ultimately folding last November. Now Johnson is back with a solo project, the creatively-named EDJ. The group’s self-titled debut is out Aug. 5 on Easy Sound, but A.V. Club listeners can get a sneak peak at one of the tracks, “Lose It All, All The Time,” below. Johnson says it’s about “rebuilding a life,” something that everyone might be (or should be) at least a little familiar with.
