Fruitvale Station’s Melonie Diaz joins James Gunn’s new horror movie
Slither and Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn announced his return to the horror genre earlier this week with a series of Facebook posts about The Belko Experiment, a new thriller that sees corporate employees forced to kill each other or be killed themselves. We’ve already reported on some of the film’s casting, but more details on the film have continued to trickle out, not unlike a series of re-appropriated ‘ ’70s hits playing through a pair of brightly colored foam headphones. The already announced Tony Goldwyn, who‘ll be playing Belko executive Barry, will be joined for the carnage by The Newsroom’s John Gallagher Jr., as well as Fruitvale Station’s Melone Diaz. Gunn also revealed that he won’t be directing the film, which he wrote and will produce, instead handing those duties off to Australian director Greg McLean, best known for his 2005 indie flick Wolf Creek.
Diaz, who played Sophinia in Ryan Coogler’s 2013 Sundance hit, will portray Dany, a young woman having the worst possible first day ever at the titular shadowy corporation. She’ll be joined by Gallagher’s Mike Pelk, presumably so that they can trade banter about Mondays, bad office coffee, and how all of their co-workers suddenly want to murder them in grisly and inventive ways.
