The upcoming mayoral race in Toronto already promises to be quite interesting. This afternoon, it was announced that infamous incumbent Rob Ford has dropped out of the race, due to medical issues surrounding an abdominal tumor. Minutes before candidate registration closed, Ford’s brother Doug registered to run in his place. And he, along with all the other candidates, will take place in dozens of debates scheduled for September and October—at least one of which will be moderated by none other than Fucked Up lead singer Damian Abraham.
Among other topics, the candidates will be discussing the role that arts and culture play in Toronto, an issue in which Abraham obviously has some vested interest. Abraham will pose questions for the mayoral hopefuls at TIFF Bell Lightbox’s Cinema One on September 29. Details on how to get in are available here. For those less fortunate who cannot attend, the debate will also be live streaming here starting at noon Toronto time (same as American Eastern time). Pink Eyes’ shirt will presumably be removed by 12:05, with sweaty hugs being doled out to the crowd by around 12:15.
