Fugazi Peel Session surfaces

A rare Peel Sessions recording of Fugazi–made on December 11, 1998, very early in the band's existence–has just become available. The MP3 blog Aquarium Drunkard is streaming live-in-the-studio versions of the early Fugazi classics "Waiting Room," "Break In," Merchandise," and "Glueman." (The tracks are also for sale on eMusic.) Peel Sessions, of course, were the calling card of the late, beloved BBC DJ John Peel, who invited hundreds of bands over the course of five decades to record songs for broadcast on his radio show. Many (but by no means all) Peel Sessions have been released over the year as CD bonus tracks or as separate releases via the label Strange Fruit. There appear to be no plans at present for a hard-copy release of the Fugazi session.

Of course, Fugazi bassist Joe Lally has done plenty of archiving of his own in the past few years, releasing a massive collection of live Fugazi sets–the Fugazi Live Series–that were recorded throughout the band's career.
