Fuller House is now asking non-twin Olsens to play Michelle

No one is happy that Michelle Tanner co-originators Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen won’t reprise the role (in shifts) for Netflix’s Fuller House, but no one seems quite as conflicted by the news as John Stamos. Although the once and future Uncle Jesse, who initially found it difficult to work with the Olsen twins because they “cried a lot” as infants, once claimed to be #heartbroken over their refusal, he’s now decided that, in a pinch, any ol’ Olsen will do.

In an interview with Andy Cohen for Sirius XM, Stamos revealed he’d once suggested that the Tanners should consider a younger Olsen to fill in for the recalcitrant ones. Stamos, of course, was referring to Elizabeth Olsen, who also does some acting these days. Apparently, he told Fuller House producer Jeff Franklin to “Call the sister [Elizabeth Olsen]. Ask her,” presumably because taking a misguided trip into ’90s nostalgia is a great way to follow up your introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But in any case, Franklin did make the offer, which was promptly declined by I Saw The Light actress’ agent. Stamos seems to have taken this latest rejection from an Olsen sibling in stride, probably because he knows there’s one more sister out there somewhere.
