Fuller House producers lose their minds, cast someone who wasn’t on Full House

As part of an ambitious program to reboot of every TV series ever made—The Fresh King Of Bel-Air! Gilmore Women! McMillan & Ex-Wife! Douglas Howser, M.D.! My Two Granddads! Everybody Still Loves Raymond, But Are No Longer In Love With Him!—John Stamos is recreating the show that made him a star, Full House. Fuller House picks up the story 20 years later, as the adorable moppets who populated the original show are now less adorable adults with kids of their own.

The show retains original cast members Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, and Andrea Barber, and has promised guest spots from Stamos and fellow adults Dave Coulier and Lori Loughlin. (And, let’s face it, it’s only a matter of time before Bob Saget, the Olsen Twins, and the dessicated remains of the Beach Boys get dragged into it.)

But Deadline Hollywood is now reporting the unthinkable: the new show has just cast someone who wasn’t on the old show. While, as on the original show, the lead parent (Saget then, Cameron now) is recently widowed, the new series has uncomfortably deviated from the formula, giving platonic co-parent Kimmy Gibler (Barber) a child of her own. Where did this child come from? We won’t spoil the very special episode.

Suffice to say, Kimmy has an ex, and rather than do the honorable thing and comb the Olive Gardens of Southern California to find an extra who might have appeared on the original show, producers have cast Juan Pablo di Pace (Camp, Dallas) as her “passionate ex-husband.” For you see, di Pace is Latino, and according to the Big Book Of TV Stereotypes, they’re a fiery, passionate people. Expect more of that kind of subtlety from Fuller House when it debuts on Netflix in 2016.
