Fun fact: The Good Place’s mid-season finale airs tonight
Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Thursday, December 6. All times are Eastern.
Top pick
The Good Place (NBC, 8:30 p.m.): Listen up, nerds, and tell me if you’ve heard this one before: An Arizona trash bag, a paralyzingly indecisive philosophy dweeb, a Florida man with an affinity for Molotov cocktails, and a close, personal friend of Meghan Markle walk into a bar. The bartender says, “What’ll it be, Soul Squad?” and then the Soul Squad doesn’t respond because a whole buttload of demons shows up and a crazy brawl ensues. The end.
Only it isn’t the end, because their friend Janet—not a girl, not a robot—happens to have access to an endless void, and just when all seems lost, she can take them there. Sure, Eleanor, Chidi, Jason, and Tahani will all die if they enter said void, but it’s that, or get sucked to The Bad Place by Shawn and his pack of demons, so into the void they go. Not a bad place to start the mid-season finale of one of TV’s best (and most recently renewed) shows. The episode in question, called “Janet(s),” airs tonight, and non-demon Dennis Perkins stands ready to dissect whatever the fork happens next.
Regular coverage
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon Prime): Episodes three and four
Wild card
Superstore (NBC, 8 p.m.): It’s been a minute since we last checked in on the fine people of Cloud Nine (or of this branch, at least), and it looks like Amy (America Ferrera) and Jonah (Ben Feldman) are headed to our neck of the woods, so we figure a return visit is the least we can do. Our neck of the woods is, of course, Chicago, where the co-workers plan to attend a manager’s conference. Superstore being Superstore, things won’t go to plan, but it’s a safe bet that Jonah will say at least one insufferable thing. Superstore, we love you. Sorry the weather here sucks.
