Future president Donald Trump declares Meryl Streep “overrated”

Donald Trump, being nothing if not predictable, got upset on Twitter this morning about Meryl Streep’s comments during last night’s Golden Globes. Upon accepting her Cecil B. DeMille Award, Streep spoke about her reaction to Trump’s imitation of a disabled reporter, condemning his tactics. “Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence. And when the powerful use their position to bully others we all lose,” she said. So, naturally, Trump resorted to name-calling. In a series of tweets, he deemed her an “over-rated” actress and a “Hillary flunky who lost big.” Furthermore, he continued to deny that he was mocking Serge Kovaleski, who has arthrogryposis, during that 2015 rally. Trump has previously tried to walk back his actions, but, as The Washington Post reported last year, it’s obvious that he was intending to mimic the journalist.

Trump also aired his grievances with Streep to The New York Times. Though at the time of the interview Trump had not watched Streep’s speech, he said he was “not surprised” by the criticism from “liberal movie people.” In the same article, he bragged about how his inauguration will have “plenty of movie and entertainment stars.” Trump’s team has reportedly struggled to enlist A-list talent to perform.
