FX announces premiere dates for You’re The Worst, Better Things, and more

Having recently filled its Archer needs for the next three years or so (um, phrasing?), FX has now announced its fall schedule for shows old and new. (The network had already shared premiere dates for some of its returning shows, but figured now’s as good a time as any to repeat them for anyone who missed them the first time around.) And right on schedule is the premiere of Tyrant, which returns July 6. The third season of the drama, from veteran TV producer Howard Gordon, will pick up following a failed coup and a cliffhanger, which seems like a solid place to kick things off.

On August 28, FX will deal with another bout of The Strain, Guillermo Del Toro’s vampire virus series. The show, which is also in its third season, will continue to center on the two sides waging war in New York City, now that the federal government has given up on defending the metropolis. But hey, at least Eph (Corey Stoll) appears to still be in it to win it.

Even though it’s not under official FX auspices, You’re The Worsts season three premiere date was also re-promoted by the network. The comedy, which placed fifth in T.V. Club’s Best Of 2015, appears on sister network FXX, where it still manages to outshine shows with prime positioning in network lineups. FX/FXX hasn’t yet teased what’s in store for Jimmy and Gretchen (played by Chris Geere and Aya Cash, respectively), but the show will return on August 31 at 10 p.m. Eastern.

FX also rolled out the premiere date for a few of its fall debuts. First up will be the Donald Glover-led (and created) comedy Atlanta, which will have its series premiere on September 6. The show stars Glover as Earnest “Earn” Marks, an up-and-coming manager with an up-and-coming rapper for a client (and cousin). Brian Tyree Henry plays Alfred Marks, the rising star who’s “trying to understand the line between real life and street life.” FX released the teaser last month, which is reliably odd and cool.

FX also has Better Things on the schedule for a series premiere on September 8. The show comes from Pamela Adlon and Louis CK, which is presumably why it was originally pitched as a “female Louie.” Adlon stars as Sam, a single mother of three who, according to the press release, juggles her parenting duties with looking after her mother, all while trying to get some “private time.” That all sounds feasible enough until you realize that the show takes place in Los Angeles, a city which somehow makes it nearly impossible to have kids, privacy, or parents.

Finally, American Horror Story will be back on September 14 for a sixth season that will feature more Lady Gaga, and possibly the return of Jessica Lange. The new season will also include Cheyenne Jackson once again, along with this weird punctuation.
