FX cancels Lights Out

FX just sent out an email announcing that they will not be moving forward with a second season of Lights Out, the Holt McCallany-starring series about a boxer forced out of retirement by various economic, family, and occasionally organized crime-related obligations. There’s no explanation yet as to why—the show seemed to be cultivating a solid cult audience (retaining an average of 800,000 viewers for the first nine episodes), the email rightfully notes that the critics seemed to enjoy it, and showrunner Warren Leight said today that he was already planning the second season—so we’re reaching out to FX now to get more details. We’ll report back when we know more. In the meantime, the current (and now final) season will wrap on April 5.
