FX developing new Western miniseries Desperadoes based on the Dalton Gang

Though Hell On Wheels hasn’t exactly been a breakout success for AMC, the show has remained viable enough to merit a fourth season. Not to be outdone in the cable Western department, FX is developing a six-hour miniseries based on Desperadoes, the 1979 debut novel by Ron Hansen (The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford) about the Dalton Brothers, a gang of outlaws that robbed trains and banks in the 1890s and were related to members of Jesse James’ outfit and the Wild Bunch. Hansen’s novel is told from the perspective of youngest brother and lone survivor Emmett Dalton, who at age 65 in 1937 begins selling his adventure stories to Hollywood. According to Deadline, Robert Knott—an actor and screenwriter who collaborated with actor/director Ed Harris on the 2005 western Appaloosa—will write and executive produce.
