Over a year after Donald Glover announced that by “concentrating on his rap career” he also meant making a rap comedy for FX, the network has finally ordered a pilot for Glover’s Atlanta. Atlanta was created by and stars Glover as Earnest ‘Earn’ Marks, a college dropout whose musical ambitions are rekindled by his cousin’s sudden success. Their rivalry will play out against the backdrop of the Atlanta hip-hop scene, a milieu very familiar to Atlanta native and hip-hop artist Glover. No other casting announcements have been made, but veteran producer Paul Simms, who served as a consulting producer on the HBO musical comedy Flight Of The Conchords, has signed on to co-executive produce.
