FX wants more of Boyz N The Hood director John Singleton’s 1980s drama about the crack cocaine epidemic in Los Angeles. The pilot of the series, titled Snowfall, was ordered by the network last year, but it’s been floating around for a while—it was originally at Showtime way back in 2014. But now FX is 100 percent on board, ordering a 10-episode first season, it announced today. According to a release the show “follows numerous characters on a violent collision course.” Among them? A “young street entrepreneur on a quest for power,” “a Mexican wrestler caught up in a power struggle within a crime family,” and “a CIA operative running from a dark past who begins an off-book operation to fund the Nicaraguan Contras.”
Dave Andron, who was an executive producer on Justified, will be the showrunner. Despite Singleton’s directing chops, the pilot was helmed by a Belgian duo, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. They are also on tap for Beverly Hills Cop IV. Snowfall is set to air in 2017.
