First developed late last year, when America simply couldn’t get enough of putting families in terrorist scenarios, Tyrant has now received an official series pick-up at FX. The show wears its Homeland influence a little more proudly than most, seeing as it hails from Homeland producers Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff,. However, it shakes things up a bit by planting Americans inside the Middle East, returning to the source of all the terrorism that makes for such compelling drama. Tyrant concerns the son of a Middle Eastern dictator, played by British actor Adam Rayner, who long ago fled to the U.S. and forged his own, decidedly American lifestyle with his wife and kids, only to be lured back home to attend his nephew’s wedding, then ensnared in his family’s old drama—drama that just happens to have a violent, geopolitical bent. The series will shoot in Israel and has a pilot directed by David Yates, and judging by the above photo it does include a teenage daughter character who’s probably just kinda going through some stuff, whom the series can shift focus to in its later seasons.
