FX picks up a second season of The Bridge

For those who make the (entirely reasonable) choice to hold off until a show gets an additional season before deciding whether to invest in it, FX has announced that is renewing The Bridge, one conveniently timed week before its first season finale is set to air. The Bridge has been FX’s biggest new series launch ever, averaging 3.65 million viewers per episode, so it’s only natural that next summer will see 13 more episodes of Demian Bichir and Diane Kruger mining international tension along the U.S./Mexico border—though, as viewers who have been keeping up with the show know, that tension will around another central mystery, now that the whole serial killer plot has wrapped. And (possibly like the Scandinavian series it’s based on, Bron) executive producers Meredith Steihm and Elwood Reid have already said next season won’t have yet another serial killer. Instead, it will find the bridge putting together a gang of its fellow bridges, to pull off the greatest jewelry heist the world has ever seen. Or maybe something else that just sort of takes place around a bridge.
