FX’s Cassius And Clay drives off into the post-apocalyptic sunset

In an unexpected twist of events, Deadline reports that FX has opted to drop the female-driven animated series Cassius And Clay as the companion to the highly successful Archer on the network’s 2016 lineup. A pilot for the show was ordered back in May, and FX ordered an additional 10 episodes in August, but only the pilot ever made it into production. The series, co-created by Archer’s Adam Reed and former Community writer Megan Ganz, would have featured Kaitlin Olson and Lake Bell as bandits looking to survive in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic American South.

Greenlighting a project starring two hilarious women was a risky choice for the network: Industry experts continue to agree that women just aren’t funny, and, as far as animated series, go the popularity of Jem And The Holograms or Daria were just flukes. Instead, FX will move forward with another animated pilot co-created, executive produced, and voiced by Louis CK and Albert Brooks. The rest of us will just have to settle for watching Thelma & Louise again.
