FX will be cured of The Strain after one more season
FX came down with a bad case of the Strigoi back in 2014, when Carlton Cuse’s adaptation of The Strain premiered. Since then, the network’s struggled to develop an immunity to or otherwise ward off the parasitic creatures; it’s aired three seasons of the show, the latest of which is currently underway. But FX has had its best men on working on a cure—no, not Eph (Corey Stoll)—and it looks like the tide is turning. The network announced today that The Strain’s fourth season will be its last.
In a press release, FX presidents of original programming Nick Grad and Eric Schrier expressed gratitude for Cuse’s vision for the series: “We sincerely thank Carlton Cuse, Guillermo del Toro, Chuck Hogan and their creative team as well as the fantastic cast for three exciting seasons of The Strain. Though we’re sad to see it go, we fully support the way in which they are crafting the fourth season’s dramatic conclusion.”
Cuse thanked the network for the opportunity, and seemed pleasantly surprised that The Strain had remained active for longer than its intended three years:
Our original plan was for the series to last three years. Once we began telling that story it expanded to be more. After finishing the writing on season three, Guillermo, Chuck and I looked at our remaining story and felt the best version could be told in one more season. We have a fantastic plan for an exciting and climatic season four. We are deeply grateful to FX for supporting our vision and for allowing us to end the show on our own timetable.
The latest bout—sorry, episode—of The Strain airs October 2.
