FX will finally air its rejected John Hawkes series Outlaw Country as a movie
The long, troubled history of Outlaw Country has come to an end, with the news that FX will burn off the final version of its rejected pilot as “an FX Original Movie” this Friday. An ambitious, Nashville-set crime thriller and family drama starring Luke Grimes, John Hawkes, and Mary Steenburgen, Outlaw was announced as a likely series on the network’s schedule long ago (alongside the Jason Patric-starring adaptation of Powers, which remains in reshoot limbo). The pilot went through a change of directors since, with Adam Arkin stepping in for Michael Dinner after the network ordered substantial reshooting. This broadcast will maybe give the curious a chance to see why the network once had such faith in the project, and maybe also see why that faith drizzled away.
