Comics creator and novelist Neil Gaiman has had so-so success with his big-screen dalliances–namely MirrorMask and Stardust–but he's giving movies another try. According to Paste, Gaiman's young adult novella Coraline is being turned into an animated feature. Tentatively due February of 2009, the film is being helmed by The Nightmare Before Christmas director Henry Selick (woah, didn't see that coming), and Dakota Fanning will voice the titular main character. Oh, and They Might Be Giants is providing the score. But that's not all on the horizon for Coraline: The novella is also being released as a graphic novel illustrated by P. Craig Russell (again, big surprise) next month. And just in case you can't get enough of Coraline, the story is coming to the stage–as a musical, in fact, with songs written by The Magnetic Fields' Stephin Merritt. The production is scheduled to run Off Broadway at the MCC Theater in Greenwich Village from May 9 to June 20, 2009.
