Game Of Thrones approaches the nerd singularity with a secret Monty Python reference

In what is basically the nerd equivalent of a Republican politician posing with a semi-automatic rifle, it turns out that Game Of Thrones creator Dan Weiss managed to work a Monty Python And The Holy Grail quote into a recent episode—only it was in Low Valyrian. This obsessive little Easter egg appears in “Breaker Of Chains,” an episode whose Pythonesque qualities were already noted by The A.V. Club’s Erik Adams in his Newbies recap. But as official Game Of Thrones linguist David J. Peterson explains in an interview on the HBO production blog, it goes even deeper than previously suspected.

“There’s a scene where the Meereenese rider is challenging Daenerys’ champion. He’s shouting and Nathalie Emmanuel [Missandei] is translating—but she’s not translating what he’s saying. He’s actually saying a Low Valyrian translation of the French guy’s insults in Monty Python And The Holy Grail. That was [series creator] Dan Weiss’s idea and it was so hilarious that I had to do it…Right after that episode aired, I was getting tweets like, ‘Is he saying a ‘your momma’ joke?’ Close…But no, he’s actually starting out with, ‘Your mother is a hamster.’”

So does this make all those brothel scenes homage to “The Tale of Sir Galahad”?
