Game Of Thrones fulfills yet another celebrity's desire for death
[Spoilers for Game Of Thrones season 8 below.]
It’d be easy to miss in a season so desperate to sprint to the end of seven seasons’ worth of storytelling, but Game Of Thrones’ killed off yet another celebrity last night. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, an outspoken fan of the HBO series, has been teasing his cameo for a few weeks now, telling The Dan Patrick Show that, though he couldn’t “confirm nor deny” his appearance, he’d “definitely wanna be killed or in one of the steamy scenes.” Turns out how got to do both, though probably not in the way he envisioned.
As was captured by no shortage of viewers on Twitter last night, Rodgers can be seen diving into a King’s Landing alley to escape the spewing fire of Dany’s rampaging dragon, only to be consumed in a ball of flame. It’s okay if you missed it, though, what with a solid 80% of the episode having been devoted to innocents getting burned alive.
Some, however, also think they spotted Rodgers as an archer in Cersei’s army.
We’re not so sure about that one, however, as this soldier appears to have a babyface, while a selfie Rodgers posted in costume shows him grizzled as hell. “It was just for a few seconds, but I’ll always be thankful to have been on the penultimate episode of @gameofthrones #crazyepisodetonight,” he wrote.
Rodgers joins a motley crew of celebrities to die on the series this season, including country music sensation Chris Stapleton, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney, and Silicon Valley’s Martin Starr. Stay tuned next week, when we’ll be back here writing up Ed Sheeran’s anticipated return.
