Game Of Thrones’ Neil Marshall is up for a Black Widow movie if you are

Neil Marshall first made a name for himself with the spelunking horror movie The Descent, but he really captured the Internet’s heart as Game Of Thrones’ go-to guy for intricately choreographed battle sequences. And since Marshall won’t be returning to the show for the fifth season, he’s got a bit of time (in between directing episodes of Constantine, that is) to plot his next move.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Marshall jokingly floated the possibility of directing a rom-com (“if it somehow involved a lot of death and violence and exploding heads, then maybe”) before getting down to the real clickable meat of the story: his willingness to direct the Black Widow movie that will save us all.

“I think I’d like to do a big movie with a strong female lead, whether or not she would be a superhero…I’m less interested in people with superpowers because I can’t identify with them.”

“I would love to do a Black Widow movie. That’s perfect, I would love to do that. That character is really interesting, she doesn’t have any superpowers, she just has extraordinary skills, and the world that she comes from, being this ex-K.G.B. assassin, I find that really fascinating, yeah.”

Of course, this is all just wishful thinking, but if we all clap our hands and wish really, really hard, then maybe this beautiful little pixie of a dream won’t die. I do believe in female-led superhero movies, I do believe in female-led superhero movies…
