“Clean your plate.” It’s a familiar refrain from childhood, a phrase repeated by generations of weary parents to their ungrateful offspring. But maybe the parents of the world have been on to something the whole time. A clean plate is, in its way, a beautiful thing. It’s an emblem of a meal that was thoroughly consumed and quite possibly enjoyed. Not a single overcooked brussels sprout has been left behind. Not one stray, slimy bite of beef stroganoff has been abandoned. Every last grain of rice has gone on to its proper reward. Comedian and writer Brandon Scott Wolf understands the value of an empty plate. In his professional life, he has contributed material to Saturday Night Live and Best Time Ever, among other shows.
