Gene Simmons gives up on trying to trademark the devil horns
It looks like The Demon is throwing in the towel: The Wrap reports that Kiss frontman Gene Simmons has abandoned his plans to try to trademark the devil horns, the iconic hand gesture that Simmons claims to have invented as far back as 1974. Simmons hasn’t given a reason for rescinding his claim on the popular finger configuration, but he apparently sent the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office a “letter of express abandonment” regarding it earlier this week. Simmons was criticized by a number of rock fans and figures—including Wendy Dio, widow of Ronnie James Dio, a frequent thrower-upper of the horns—when news broke earlier this week that he had attempted to trademark the internationally accepted symbol for rocking the fuck out.
