The new George Clooney-directed film Suburbicon takes place in an idyllic 1950s suburb where a family man (Matt Damon) stages a home invasion to get rid of his wife (Julianne Moore), but—shockingly—things go awry. The movie contrasts the façade of 1950s suburbia with weightier themes like social inequality and racism. But Clooney isn’t really expecting the political commentary of the film to change anyone’s mind. On the red carpet, he explained to us why.
