George Clooney leaves Tom Ford alone with Nocturnal Animals

George Clooney has backed out of his plans to produce Nocturnal Animals, the second film from A Single Man director Tom Ford. The announcement came on Thursday, not long before Ford presented his vision of the film, which will star Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams as a divorced couple reflecting on their long-ended marriage, to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival.

The New York Post’s Page Six initially reported that Clooney left the production after a creative falling-out with Ford, but the actor and director denied the rumors, citing a simple mismatch of schedules. Then he smiled that big Georgey Clooney smile, and everyone involved was suddenly reminded of how silly it would be to imagine someone ever falling out with old George Clooney.

As with A Single Man, Ford will produce Nocturnal Animals on his own, through his Fade To Black production company. The movie will star Adams as a woman forced to confront hard truths about a former marriage after her ex-husband asks her to critique a violent novel that he’s written.
