George Lucas can’t be bothered to watch the new Star Wars trailer

As part of his assumed moratorium on watching things he can’t digitally ruin afterwards, George Lucas has apparently not seen the official teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Asked about the trailer by Page Six, Lucas said, “I don’t know anything about it. I haven’t seen it yet.” And when the reporter pressed further, asking if Lucas was curious to see what new director J.J. Abrams had done with the franchise, Lucas tersely replied, “not really.”

Lucas’ stated reason for not seeing the trailer is “Because it’s not in the movie theater. I like going to the movies and watching the whole thing there,” which is not a great excuse because one, the trailer was shown in selected theaters and two, George Lucas almost certainly has a private movie theater in his house. On the plus side, Lucas’ lack of involvement means he can’t add any musical numbers to the trailer.
