German rock festival evacuated after terror threat

German music festival Rock am Ring has been forced to ask attendees to evacuate today, in response to an apparent terrorist threat. According to the festival’s Facebook page, police asked festival organizers to interrupt the festival, which was scheduled to run from today through Sunday in Nürburgring, Germany. As many as 80,000 people were forced to leave the festival grounds.

Music venues have become increasingly popular targets in recent years for those wishing to spread violent terror; less than two years ago, bombers and gunmen killed nearly 100 people at the Bataclan concert hall in Paris, and an attack on an Ariana Grande concert in the U.K. last month killed 23, many of them minors.

Rock am Ring organizers say they hope to resume the festival tomorrow; performers listed on its bill include Sum 41, System Of A Down, and Liam Gallagher.
