Get a Lyft from the Ghostbusters this Independence Day weekend
This weekend, as the nation prepares to celebrate its independence from Britain—with or without some help from Jeff Goldblum—patriots can also declare their liberty from Big Oil by hitching a ride with Lyft. Okay, so that’s something that inebriated or car-less people would probably do anyway, but the ride-sharing program is sweetening the deal with some Hi-C Ecto Cooler and a fleet of Ecto-1s. That’s right, Lyft is going into Ghost Mode with some help from Sony to promote the release of Ghostbusters, offering free rides in the original Ecto-1s as well as replicas of those iconic cars.
We assume the invisible driver in that promo was there for dramatic effect. But Ghost Mode will be available to Lyft users in New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, and Washington D.C. on July 1-2 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time. (Chicago always gets left out in the cold for these things.) There will also be giveaways for “in-car swag” like Hi-C Ecto Coolers and Hostess Key Lime Slime Twinkies, as well as a drawing for a chance to attend the Ghostbusters Los Angeles premiere on July 9. The two winners will each receive a pair of tickets, though you’ll have to provide your own ruined childhood or childhood-ruining agenda.
If you do want a free Lyft, just select Ghost Mode in the Lyft app on July 1-2. (And watch out for that pink smoke.) Ghostbusters hits theaters on July 15.
