Get Involved, Internet: GWAR is back, in comic-book form
If America was ever that great, why are we only now getting a GWAR comic book? Considering the band—featuring characters such as Balsac The Jaws Of Death, Bonesnapper, and the late Oderus Urungus—certainly took some influence from KISS, it seems like it should have already embarked on several four-color adventures by now. Finally, the time has come, and fans can help.
The band just launched a Kickstarter campaign to release the band’s first comic book adventure, GWAR: Orgasmageddon. The comic, from Matt Miner and Jonathan Brandon Sawyer, will feature GWAR as time-traveling heroes from the planet Scumdogia, “making friends, killing friends, and drowning the entire human timeline in blood, bile, and err…other fluids.” The team is looking to raise $39,000 to make the comic book a reality. The rewards are plentiful—and all pretty cool—including T-shirts, trading card sets, exclusive covers, and a tattoo from Asylum Tattoo in Long Island, New York. A donation of $1750 will get you an autographed, stage-used prop: the decapitated head of Mitt Romney.
The punk/metal band, known for its badass costumes and very wet live shows, has been playing out since 1984, but began to gain notoriety in the mid-’90s thanks to the videos for “Saddam A Go-Go” and “The Road Behind” getting some airplay on MTV’s Beavis And Butt-Head.
The campaign will run until Friday, November 25, so skip Black Friday this year and donate to a worthy cause. Click here to donate.
