Get Involved, Internet: Help make this Golden Girls Lego set a reality
As any true Lego-head knows, the company has a process in place regarding submitting new concepts for future Lego sets. (And no, it’s not just an endless viewing party for ongoing Lego movies into perpetuity.) It’s a rigorous procedure, one that involves someone building their idea of a potential Lego-friendly set, taking some pictures, posting them on the internet, and then essentially saying, “Eh? Eh?” Once a set has received 10,000 supporters, it is taken under consideration. And now, one enterprising soul has finally sussed out why Lego has survived all these years: so that there can at long last be a Lego set based on popular ’80s sitcom The Golden Girls.
In their pitch for this particular Lego project, the new savior of the world describes all the wonderful benefits of a set of plastic toys based on characters from the erstwhile sitcom—a show, they would like to remind you, that is “still watched daily around the world.” You’ve got your Dorothy, Rose, Sophia, Blanche, and Stanley figurines. You’ve got loving recreations of the foyer, living room, and kitchen, built like the studio set on which the show was filmed. Most important, you’ve got some key recreations of famous episodes, including the legendary visit from Burt Reynolds.
The project currently has 5,607 supporters, meaning it’s still only at the halfway point. Since it’s likely a given that, having been made aware of its existence, there’s basically no way you can live without a Golden Girls Lego set, now might be a good time to head on over to the support page and register your enthusiasm. What child doesn’t dream of playing Lego make-believe with a bunch of miniature plastic retirement-age women? Just think of the fun your kids will have dreaming up adventures to the Medicare office, or possibly attending the funerals of elderly friends.
