Get Involved, Internet: Matt Walsh needs your help finishing his improvised hypnotism comedy
As a founding member of the Upright Citizens Brigade, Matt Walsh has earned his place in the pantheon of improv comedy. These days, he’s best known for playing press secretary Mike McClintock on HBO’s Veep, but Walsh has also teamed up with The Onion News Network’s Brian Huskey to shoot the improvised comedy A Better You.
Similar to Walsh’s directorial debut High Road, A Better You is co-written (or co-outlined, if you will) by Walsh and Huskey and features many of their famous friends like Horatio Sanz, Joe Lo Trugilo, Rob Huebel, Adam Pally, Natasha Leggero, Riki Lindhome, Andrew Daly, and more. Huskey stars as Dr. Ron, a Los Angeles hypnotherapist struggling with a midlife crisis that proves crushing to his outsized ego. Walsh tells tells The Hollywood Reporter that the film was inspired by the “world of hypnosis and the desperation of L.A.”
Most of A Better You has already been shot, but now Walsh and Huskey have taken to Indiegogo to fund post-production on the film. They are asking for exactly $52,650, which they say is just enough to “make it perfect.” If you’ve got $1,000 burning a hole in your pocket and 2 years of post-collegiate improv experience, you can take a 3-hour master class with Walsh at the UCB in New York or LA. An investment of $9,000 will get you an executive producer credit on the film, or you can be an executive producer and have dinner with the cast and crew for $15,000. More relevant to all the struggling improv comedians out there, 30 bucks gets you a T-shirt.
