Gillian Flynn hints at the possibility of a Gone Girl sequel

Gillian Flynn, author of the best-selling novel Gone Girl and screenwriter of David Fincher’s film adaptation, thinks there could be another movie about her damaged lead characters, Nick and Amy Dunne. She told the New York Daily News, “It could be really fun a few years from now to pick it up and see what those crazy Dunnes are up to a few years down the road and if they got on—not well, I don’t think.”

Although that premise might sound like an sitcom, Flynn apparently wants to keep the original film’s chilly tone intact, saying she won’t write it unless Fincher once again is attached to direct. “I would have to have the exact same people to do it—I would want Rosamund [Pike], Ben [Affleck], and Fincher to do it,” she says.

Flynn, who is now working with Fincher on the HBO series Utopia, didn’t provide any specifics about when she might start writing Goner Girl or whatever it’s called. But we suspect that “a few years from now” the notion of marriage being a hopeless trap will still be relevant.
