GLAAD doesn't want ABC to go through with Work It either

Echoing the whispered pleas of the world, GLAAD and the Human Rights Campaign have urged ABC not to air its upcoming cross-dressing sitcom Work It, which promises to do for the “mancession” what Bosom Buddies did for post-Sexual Revolution America—namely, put some dudes in wigs and then make jokes about walking in high heels. Also, maybe one of them falls in love with a girl, and then that girl assumes his cross-dressing alter ego a lesbian. Really, knows what hilarious directions among the three or four most obvious ones this show will take?

Anyway, GLAAD and the HRC would prefer we not even ask, as they’ve launched an email campaign to demand that ABC not “air a show that reinforces negative and damaging stereotypes about transgender people,” such as the “the mistaken belief that transgender women are simply ‘men pretending to be women’”—in this case, in order to get a job in the increasingly female-dominated industry that is totally happening right now, and forcing many a man to resort to desperate, sitcommy means to find work. (It’s why you’ve seen so many former major league baseball players turning up as housekeepers lately.) In the meantime, protesters have also asked that ABC pull from circulation a current print ad featuring the show’s leads hiking up their skirts to pee at urinals, which GLAAD says mirrors the imagery that “anti-LGBT activists resort to when trying to deny transgender people equal access to public facilities.” “Those sound like some hilarious activists,” ABC said. “Who represents them?”
