Glee to "deal directly" with the death of Cory Monteith, will most likely only last 2 more seasons

Glee will be paying its respects to Cory Monteith with the third episode of this upcoming season. At today’s Fox TCA panel, channel Chairman Kevin Reilly said that the episode will write Finn out of the show, and, while he wouldn’t confirm that Finn would die of a drug overdose, said that the episode “will deal directly with the incidents involved with Cory’s passing and the drug abuse in particular.” Showrunner Ryan Murphy will also shoot PSAs with the cast that will “speak directly with the audience” about Monteith’s issues, and all proceeds from sales of music from that episode will go directly into a fund started in Monteith’s name. Following the third episode, the series will go on hiatus around the World Series and return in November with episode four.

In slightly lighter news, Reilly also announced that Glee probably won’t go more than two more seasons, saying that while he’ll “never say never,” he doesn’t “anticipate it going beyond” this year and the next.

Reilly also said that the first two episodes of the upcoming fifth season will be Beatles themed, as if that could help soothe the pain of countless Gleeks.

A full report from The A.V. Club embeds at the Fox executive is forthcoming.
