Glenn Close fails to win talking raccoon role in Guardians Of The Galaxy

Despite years of proving herself with Oscar-nominated performances in such films as Fatal Attraction and her Emmy-winning turn on Damages, Glenn Close has nevertheless failed to win the role of a wisecracking space raccoon in Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. Instead, director James Gunn—who apparently didn’t see Close’s masterfully disguised portrayals of men in Albert Nobbs and Hook, both not-so-subtle arguments to just let her play a raccoon already—has cast Close in “a leadership role in Nova Corps,” according to Deadline. This non-raccoon part as the head of “the intergalactic space patrol” (a patrol that may or may not also involve John C. Reilly’s Rhomann Dey) puts Close in a position of authority akin to Samuel L. Jackson over at S.H.I.E.L.D—or, if you prefer, like her police captain on The Shield, only with other talking tree stumps besides Michael Chiklis. Unfortunately, it seems Close will just have to wait until some other actress finally breaks Hollywood’s archaic raccoon ceiling.
