Glenn Howerton was almost the star of Guardians Of The Galaxy

It’s hard to imagine anybody but Parks And Recreation’s lovable, rough-around-the-edges Chris Pratt as Peter Quill in this summer’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. But if Pratt didn’t get the role, it would have been It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s Glenn Howerton.

In a recent profile for GQ, Drew Magary assembled 40 factoids about Pratt, the kind of coverage that is par for the course when you are dubbed the second coming of Han Solo. One of the extra nuggets Magary uncovered was that if things didn’t work out with Pratt, director James Gunn was ready with a back-up plan. “There was a good chance that, if I didn’t cast Chris, that I would’ve cast Glenn Howerton in the role,” Gunn told Magary.

Much like the stories of Indiana Jones almost being played by Tom Selleck, with this information we can appreciate how things turned out while wondering what could have been. (Perhaps a more svelte, smug Peter Quill would have bested Ronan the Accuser using the power of the D.E.N.N.I.S. System.) Meanwhile, somewhere on the Internet, a Sunny/Guardians mashup is being prepped.
