The brother-sister team of Keely and Maura Davis formed the core of the defunct Denali, whose subtle mix of post-punk intensity and atmospheric indie rock never got as much attention as it deserved. Keely has moved on—most notably as the guitarist of the ex-At The Drive-In outfit Sparta—but Maura’s post-Denali projects have been more low-key, Glös included. Glös released just one full-length, 2007’s Harmonium, but in 2008 the long-distance collaboration between Maura and Keely resulted in an additional, four-song EP that never saw the light of day—until now. That Hidden Cities EP, which is being debuted in full here, is a Maura-driven set of songs that showcases her gripping voice as well as the lush, shadowy songcraft her and Keely (along with Cornbread Compton, Keely’s former bandmate in the great post-hardcore group Engine Down) weave so well.
