Godspeed You! Black Emperor, METZ, and Metric make the Polaris Prize Short List
Godspeed You! Black Emperor, METZ, and Tegan And Sara have made the 2013 Polaris Music Prize shortlist. Those three acts join seven others, all listed below, in competition for the top prize in Canadian music. The award will be handed out Sept. 23 at The Carlu in Toronto, at a ceremony hosted by singer-songwriter Kathleen Edwards and rapper Shad, both of whom have made the Short List twice before.
Records by Canadian artists released between June 1, 2012 and May 31, 2013 were eligible for the Polaris Music Prize. (The Barenaked Ladies’ Grinning Streak came out June 4, making it eligible for the 2014 prize.) An independent jury of over 200 journalists, bloggers, and broadcasters whittled down all the options into both a Long and Short list, and then a Grand Jury of 11 people drawn from that pool will pick the ultimate winner. Winners get $30,000 Canadian, or $40,000 Tim Hortons bucks.
