Gomorrah hopes to hit the 10 Spot just right

Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Wednesday, August 24. All times are Eastern.

Top picks

Another Period (Comedy Central, 10 p.m.): And now for Another Period’s actual second season finale. (They tricked your friendly neighborhood What’s On Tonight contributor with that whole “three-part finale” thing. She will get back at them by reviewing this episode.) Just like last week’s “The Duel” got right the point of what to expect from Another Period, this week’s “Lillian Is Dead” pretty much says it all. But here’s more, in case the title isn’t really enough: “Hortense and Bertram’s happiness turns out to be short-lived, as does Commodore and Chair’s; Beatrice turns to religion when her bar fight with Lillian has deadly consequences; Blanche gives birth downstairs.”

The Night Shift (NBC, 10 p.m.): It really is all going down in the 10 Spot—you know, the magical 10 p.m. ET time slot—tonight. In The Night Shift’s “Emergent,” which just so happens to be part one of the show’s two-part season finale, “Scott (Scott Wolf) and Jordan (Jill Flint) face grave danger during a rescue mission at a rapidly spreading wildfire outside San Antonio. Tensions are high between Syd (recurring guest star Jennifer Beals) and TC (Eoin Macken) as they find themselves in the middle of a humanitarian crisis on the Syria-Turkey border.” And that’s not all! “Paul (Robert Bailey Jr.) and Shannon (Tanaya Beatty) argue over treatment for a patient. Meanwhile, a major setback threatens Drew’s (Brendan Fehr) adoption plans for Brianna (guest star Kyla Kenedy), Topher (Ken Leung) struggles to find a buyer for the hospital and medication goes missing.”

Damn, The Night Shift is stressful. No wonder Motorcycle Doctor rides his motorcycle through the hospital halls—he has to relieve the stress somehow!

Gomorrah (SundanceTV, 10 p.m.): Tonight sees the series premiere of Gomorrah—“Italy’s all-time most popular television series,” so no pressure—on SundanceTV. What’s this super popular Italian television series all about? “Set in the suburbs of Naples, the series focuses on the inside story of the Camorra, the fierce Neapolitan crime organization, told through the eyes of Ciro Di Marzio (Marco D’Amore), the right hand of the clan’s godfather, Pietro Savastano (Fortunato Cerlino).” Sounds sexy. We’re in.

Premieres and finales

Duck Dynasty (A&E, 9 p.m.): Duck Dynasty ends its 10th season with “Techs And Balances.” Sounds full of shenanigans, doesn’t it? “Willie institutes a “no-tech week” when he feels his children are spending too much time on their phones, but has difficulty participating in his own program; the guys attempt to stop a lice outbreak at Duck Commander.” Yup. Shenanigans.

Toddlers & Tiaras (TLC, 9 p.m.): Finally, Toddlers & Tiaras is back for its seventh season. FINALLY! “Cambrie vs. Jaimie: Game On!” You bet your ass, game on! Toddlers! Tiaras! We’ve definitely seen this show!

Wahlburgers (A&E, 10 p.m.): Wahlburgers ends its sixth season with the “Wahlbowl.” Need an explanation? Fine. “The family visit the New England Patriots to play touch football and meet team owner Robert Kraft. Elsewhere: Donnie takes his son to visit the Zildjian cymbal factory.” You know: little burger things.

Toucan Nation (Animal Planet, 10 p.m.): Let us know if Toucan Sam and/or Froot Loops show up. Even if it’s just a commercial.

Regular coverage

Mr. Robot (USA, 10 p.m.)

Streaming pick

The Sopranos (Amazon Video/iTunes): You probably haven’t heard of this show…
