Gone Girl’s Gillian Flynn is writing a heist thriller for Steve McQueen
Gone Girl author and screenwriter Gillian Flynn has signed on to co-write a heist thriller for 12 Years A Slave director Steve McQueen. The thriller is based on the British miniseries Widows, about a team of four armed robbers who are killed in a failed heist attempt and their widows, who team up to complete the job. This should be right in Flynn’s wheelhouse, as it sounds like an exciting story about strong female characters who take matters into their own deranged hands. However, this could be new territory for McQueen, who thus far has largely been interested in male protagonists in circumstances so punishing that viewers want little more than to curl up and die. Meanwhile, both Flynn and McQueen also have projects underway at HBO; Flynn is reteaming with Gone Girl director David Fincher on the series Utopia, and McQueen is working on the upcoming series Codes Of Conduct, which we assume will require frequent breaks for viewers to go out and see the sunshine.
