Good evening, weirdos, and welcome back, The Chris Gethard Show
Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Tuesday, March 20. All times are Eastern.
Top pick
The Chris Gethard Show (truTV, 11 p.m.): The great promise of live television is that anything can happen. The Chris Gethard Show is the variety/call-in/comedy series that follows through on that promise. A few months after he surprised Paul Scheer and Jason Mantzoukas by foisting hosting duties on them with zero warning, Gethard returns to welcome Abbi Jacobson and musical guests Charly Bliss, and what comes after that is anyone’s guess. Marketing copy for the midseason premiere promises something about automotive giveaways, but last time we took the show at its word, we wound up looking just as foolish as Scheer and Mantzoukas.
Regular coverage
Black Lightning (The CW, 9 p.m.)
Rise (NBC, 9:01 p.m.)
Wild card
Fresh Off The Boat (ABC, 8:30 p.m.): The fourth season concludes with Jessica seeking Stephen King’s endorsement for her debut novel, A Case Of A Knife To The Brain. Judging by her track record and overall persuasiveness, we predict a case of success in her future.
