Good old Joe “just gets stupider” in the trailer for Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser
A little more than 14 years ago, the world was bestowed the cinematic gift of Joe Dirt, cementing David Spade’s status as a comedic lead. Proving he could shed his signature cynical-wimp persona for something greater, Joe Dirt established that Spade could also play a wimpy, gullible redneck, stigmatized by the rejection of his parents, and, later, movie audiences.
Now, after years of tantalizing Joe Dirt’s fan base with the promise of continued adventures, Crackle has released the trailer for Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser, which appears to be balancing the aesthetics of state congressional campaign ads with a Joe Dirt fan film.
Perhaps acknowledging the punishing gap between chapters, much of the Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser’s trailer serves as a reminder. We are reminded that Joe Dirt has a highly aggressive mullet. We are reminded that he was abandoned at the Grand Canyon. We are reminded that Christopher Walken is a cinematic icon, and if he wants to be in a second Joe Dirt movie, then he will be in a second Joe Dirt movie, thank you very much. We are reminded that after paying Walken, there was no budget left over to acquire the rights to Bob Seger’s mournful classic, “Beautiful Loser.” And we are reminded that Joe Dirt was a movie that happened.
As the abandoned janitor himself promises, Joe Dirt “just gets stupider,” a promise that will be fulfilled when the sequel premieres on Crackle’s streaming network sometime this summer.
