Google makes move on YouTube

Senseless viral-video browsing may become even more lucrative (but not for you) if Google succeeds in its rumored attempt to acquire YouTube, the Wall Street Journal reports. But such a move could damper the fun:

But any purchase by Google could further incite some content owners' who are already concerned that their copyrighted video and music is available without their permission through YouTube. That has concerned Yahoo amid its ongoing interest in acquiring YouTube, says a person familiar with the matter.

That's too bad–wouldn't it be fun to link Hollywood studio lots on Google Earth to the plethora of copyrighted material produced at each one that now circulates on YouTube? It's worth scrolling through the financial and legal mumbo-jumbo, though, to get the Journal's stipple portrait of a smug-looking Chard Hurley, YouTube's young CEO.
