Graham Yost making period-piece spy drama for WGN this time

Justified showrunner and The Americans executive producer Graham Yost is preparing to adapt Alex Kershaw’s Avenue Of Spies for WGN America. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Yost is teaming with screenwriter Andrea Berloff to tell the story of a family of Americans in Nazi-occupied France, whose proximity to Gestapo operations—they live just down the street from headquarters! The property values must be exorbitant!—makes them ideal spies for the French Resistance. In other words, it’s a reverse Americans taking place during the international conflict that led to the events chronicled in The Americans, with a pilot penned by the author of fact-based scripts like World Trade Center and the long-gestating NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton. Berloff also worked on the Arnold Schwarzenegger post-comeback vehicle Legend Of Conan, a story of aging biceps getting back to swinging a sword after a period where they were mostly use for legislating—so, yeah, she and Yost (who worked on Band Of Brothers and The Pacific) have experience with historical fiction.
